The Spiritual Head of the Armenian Catholics of Istanbul and Turkey, Most Rev. Archbishop Levon Zekiyan, will preside over the consecration and reopening Holy Mass of St. Joseph Armenian Catholic Church in Diyarbakir on Sunday, December 5, at 10:00 AM, with the participation of many pilgrims. The church was built between the 18th and 19th centuries. Restoration began in 2017 by the General Directorate of Foundations and was completed in 2020. In April 2020, the church was allocated to Dicle (Tigris) University for cultural and artistic studies for a long period, but the Armenian Catholic Archeparchy retains the right to perform sacred ceremonies there. On Saturday, December 4, the eve of the consecration, Most Rev. Zekiyan will celebrate Mass at the Syriac Catholic Church in Mardin, as the Armenian Catholic Church in Mardin is currently under renovation. The Archbishop will be accompanied by the altar servers and choir of Surp Hovhan Vosgeperan Church in Istanbul, as well as a group of faithful.
