Holy Mass at St. Anthony Church in Tarabya
On Sunday, June 18, 2023, at 11:00 AM, Most Rev. Archbishop Levon Zekiyan celebrated Holy Mass at the St. Anthony Armenian Catholic Church in Tarabya, in the presence of many faithful. The assisting priests were Very Rev. Vartan Kazandjian and Very Rev. Apraham Firatyan. Rev. Hayk Aram Chekich also participated. Serving at the Holy Altar were Senior Deacon Hagop Minassian, Subdeacon Jan Adjemoğlu, and Jan Yontan. The hymns were performed by the Vosgeperan choir under the direction of Zaven Akay. Present were Alex Kalpakdjian, Chairman of the Abeloglu Board of Trustees, and representatives from various boards and faithful.
In his sermon, the Archbishop recalled the former glory of the Armenian Catholic community and, depicting the ideal believer for past generations, presented it as an example for today, inviting current generations to be faithful who love the community just as much.
Before the final prayer of the Holy Mass, Father Vartan expressed congratulations for Father's Day, especially for the Archbishop, who is both the head and the father of our community. He then presented a hand cross with a red cloth to the Archbishop, so that he might bless the people with his paternal blessings.
At the end of the Holy Mass, a memorial service (Hokehankisd) was performed for the souls of those who built this church dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua, especially for the Tingrian family, whose remains rest in the same church.
This Holy Mass marked the opening of the summer season, whereby the Sunday Holy Masses at Vosgeperan Church in Taksim cease and are celebrated in Büyükdere until the Feast of the Holy Cross. Vosgeperan remains open to the faithful even on Saturdays and Sundays until noon. On other days of the week, it is open from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
